ABOUT THE BRONX PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
The Bronx Photographic Society was founded in 1953 as the New York Botanical Zoological Photographic Society by a group interested in sharing their love of photography. Since then, the same spirit of camaraderie and mutual interest has shaped the present club.
Today’s membership includes photographers whose experience range from beginner to professional, with an equally diverse assortment of photographic interests. Members work in color, black & white and digital manipulation, and create images of wildlife, scenic, nature, abstracts, portraits, digitally altered photos and more. In 2016, we changed our name to the Bronx Photographic Society to more accurately reflect the more diverse photographic interests of our club members.
The BPS offers opportunities for photographers to improve their skills, share ideas and show their work. In addition to presentations by great photographers (like John Slonina, Tim Grey, Jim Christensen, Shiv Verma, Ron Wyatt, George Schaub, Lou Jones, Jon Ortner and Joe LeFevre), we offer instructional presentations, workshops and monthly digital competitions. Here members get feedback on their work from a judge from outside of the club. Members can compete in their Group competition, as well as in our Theme, Black-and-White and Altered Reality competitions. Additional activities include exhibits, photo shoots and classes. After most meetings, many club members head on over to the Fordham University buffet followed by some shooting at the Botanical Gardens (it’s just across the street!) or the Zoo and you’re always welcome to join us.
Bronx 12 News recently visited an BPS meeting which you can see here.
JOIN US – and share your interest in photography in a friendly and supportive atmosphere!
* The Club meets twice a month on Saturday mornings from September – June at the Fordham Preparatory School (Room 327/329) on the Fordham University Rose Hill Campus, Bronx, New York, just across the street from the New York Botanical Gardens and close to the Bronx Zoo. Visitors are always welcomed. Directions can be found here.
