2019-2020 Schedule

Here’s the tentative schedule for our 2019-2020 season. Stay tuned for more information on the season’s presentations, lectures, workshops, competitions shortly. We hope to see all of you back for our 66th season which runs from September 2019 to June 2020! After each meeting, many club members head on over for some shooting at the Botanical Gardens (it’s just across the street!) or the Zoo, or to a local restaurant so consider joining us for that too! Each month we have a monthly photo competition where members compete in their group (open to all subject matter) and can also compete in our monthly theme competition, black-and-white competition and our Altered Reality (manipulated image) competition. All meetings unless otherwise specified start at 9:45am at the Fordham Preparatory School on the Rose Hill campus of Fordham University, Bronx.

Our seventh competition of the season! The theme competition is Dusk The judge is Walter Kimmel. Upload your photos by Wednesday 3/4 at 11:59pm.

To clarify the definition of Dusk:

Respectively, dusk occurs when the geometric center of the Sun is 18° below the horizon in the evening. Twilight refers to the periods between the dawn and sunrise and sunset and dusk, where sunrise and sunset are defined as the exact times when the upper edge of the disc of the Sun is at the horizon. – Source: National Institute of Standards and Technology, US Dept. of Commerce
Dusk is the period of time between sunset and nightfall. Many parents allow their children to roam freely in their neighborhood as long as they are home by dusk. For some, dusk is seen as a mysterious, almost magical time, serving as the bridge between the brightness of day and the darkness of night. – Vocabulary.com
IS DUSK THE SAME AS SUNSET?  “Sunset” is the opposite. It occurs the moment the disc of sun completely disappears below the western horizon. Technically, “dusk” is the period of twilight between complete darkness and sunrise (or sunset). In common usage, “dawn” refers to morning, while “dusk” refers only to the evening twilight. – Tom Skilling, meteorologist for WGN in Chicago
